WFA Dinner to Celebrate 'What Makes Wellington Great' (30 Aug 2010)

The addition of a high-profile MC and a well-known musical act have helped add some extra flavour to the 2010 Wellington Free Ambulance Annual Dinner.

To be held at the Wellington Town Hall on Saturday 27th November 2010, the WFA Annual Dinner has over the years grown to be a highly anticipated event on the Wellington calendar.

The theme for this dinner this year is 'What makes Wellington Great', with popular New Zealand personality and proud ex-Wellingtonian John Campbell on board as event MC. A journalist for over 20 years and host of his own current affairs show ‘Campbell Live’ on TV3, John will entertain the dinner crowd with his insights on what’s great about Wellington, as well as politics, sports and other topics that spring to mind.

Also confirmed are the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra, who has generously agreed to perform at this year's event. Pulling together some of Wellington’s favourite musicians and commanding the four-string like you’ve never heard it before, the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra’s strummers have become a sell-out outfit. Their live shows feature sing-a-long favourites, blazing solos, stunning dress sense, sparkling harmonies and impromptu comic banter as they lovingly reinterpret hit songs from across the musical generations.

A diverse range of over 40 live and silent auction prizes are currently being assembled, including Tickets to the 2011 NZI Rugby Sevens, A Table for 10 at the 2011 Montana World of Wearable Arts, Jewellery form Peter Shakes, A Luxury High Tea for ten at the Museum Hotel, use of the Dominion Post ferry for a night, iconic images of Wellington on canvas thanks to Simon Woolf, and much much more.

A delectable three-course menu, courtesy of Chef Dan Mikkelsen from Restaurant Associates, has also been prepared for guests who purchase a ticket to this unique charity event.

WFA Fundraising Manager James Craw says that this charity dinner will be one not to miss. "We have a few surprises in store for this year's event, and fully expect it to be our best dinner yet".

"And all funds raised on the night go towards a new frontline ambulance for the paramedics of Wellington Free Ambulance," says James.
