This enables professional staff to apply their knowledge and education in delivering the best clinical pathway for their patient, rather than uncritically following preset procedures that might not be the best clinical care pathway for the patient...

As part of this appeal we are encouraging the community to 'spread the word' about Wellington Free Ambulance and the vital work they do. One way for people to do this is to send out 'visual statistics' that make up the core of this years' appeal, to friends, family and work colleagues. When approaching the scene of an accident or emergency, follow the DRSABC Action Plan: D - Check for Danger, e.g. electrical cords, petrol or other hazards. R - Response, Check for repsonse, 'shake and shout', If patient is unresponsive/unconscious, then: S - Send for Help, Get someone to call 111 immediately, ask for an ambulance. A - Clear Airway, Place patient on back, tilt head back. Remove any foreign matter from patient's mouth...
