Stay safe this Easter weekend

Stay safe this Easter weekend

With the Easter break coming up we want you to have fun, and be safe. It helps to be proactive and prepared, especially if you are planning to hit the road for a long weekend somewhere nice.

Wellington Free Ambulance paramedic, Amanda Johnston says she often sees drivers getting frustrated behind the wheel and driving too fast during the busy Easter break. Amanda’s advice is to take it easy.

“A lack of patience sees some drivers become too eager to overtake and do so when they don’t have a good visual of the road ahead.”

Amanda emphasises the importance of using your seatbelts, appropriate child seats, and taking regular rest breaks to manage fatigue.

“It’s about doing your part to ensure you’re driving safely, whilst being aware of those driving around you.”

Off the road, if you’re planning an Easter egg hunt for your children, Amanda says it’s best to be careful when choosing the location.

“Keep away from roads and stay away from obstacles where children have the potential to hurt themselves.”

GP services will have limited availability over the Easter break, so being organised is key.

Amanda says “make sure you’re up to date with your prescriptions. If you feel unwell before the Easter break, make sure you visit your GP in plenty of time.

“If you need medical advice during the break, there will be selected pharmacies open, and Healthline is an excellent service that is just a phone call away. If you have an emergency call 111. We’re the ones who’ll be here for you.

Happy Easter!
