Wellington Free Ambulance are reminding our community to continue to call 111 if you are experiencing a medical emergency and let us know if you or anyone in your household is experiencing flu-like symptoms.

It’s important we continue to keep ourselves, each other and our community safe. Keeping to our bubbles and staying home helps with this, but it’s really important that no one neglects potentially serious health conditions because of concerns around COVID-19.

Seek medical care early, don’t leave it until you feel really sick. GPs are offering consultations over the phone and pharmacies are still open. Please don’t be worried about calling 111 for help if you or anyone you know needs it. We’ll work with you to ensure the best care, in the best way, and will take every precaution to ensure to you stay safe from viruses such as COVID-19. Care and compassion are fundamental to how we work, and this will always continue.

Our paramedic teams are well prepared to respond safety and appropriately. When you call 111 they’ll ask additional questions about recent flu-like symptoms for you or anyone in your household. Our Clinical Paramedic Advisors might call you back to discuss what’s happening for you. Please be honest and let them know how you are feeling, whether you’ve been in contact with someone who has COVID-19 or if you yourself have had COVID-19 and since recovered.

We will continue to ensure our paramedics use best practice to remain clean and safe as they travel between patients. To ensure the safest treatment for you, and the best protection for our teams, they’ll respond a little differently but looking after you remains our top priority.

When our paramedic crews arrive they might already be wearing face masks and eye protection. They will assess you from a two metre distance and ask about flu like symptoms for you or anyone in your household. They may ask you to put on a surgical mask. Depending on your symptoms, they will determine what level of personal protective equipment they need, so please be truthful even if it was a recent cold or sore throat.

If we’re unable to protect our staff and keep them safe, we’ll be unable to protect you.

If we don’t respect these, let us know and we’ll do everything we can to put it right.
