Wairarapa Station Build

Building Wairarapa Station

Built for the community, by the community.

Wellington Free Ambulance in front of snowy mountains

Wellington Free Ambulance is building a permanent ambulance station to meet the emergency demands and needs of anyone that needs us in the Wairarapa.

The brand new, state of the art, fit for purpose ambulance station will be located in Masterton. This central location means we can reach even the most remote areas in the Wairarapa, while the Greytown Station at Five Rivers will remain a key base for the support of South Wairarapa.

Key features of the new station
  • A base for 3 emergency ambulances, emergency response vehicle and 30+ crew that support the Wairarapa Community.

  • Built to IL4 standards,  able to withstand more seismic  shaking than other commercial structures, it will provide a safe space for the people of Wairarapa in the event of a civil emergency or natural disaster. If the Wellington WFA base was compromised this station would become the headquarters for all regional services.

  • Will house The Lloyd Morrison Foundation Heartbeat Training Centre,  a space for community groups from across the region to attend free CPR training

  • The Ambulance Hall of Memories will house museum memorabilia from the 95 years of service of Wellington Free Ambulance across the region.

  • Agile workspaces will ensure the crews have state of the art accessible office space.

  • Fully soundproofed and purpose-built sleeping rooms will support our crew to be well rested, and a fully equipped kitchen will ensure our crews are well nourished throughout their shift.

Building is scheduled to commence in July 2023, with our crews moving in and the new station opening in April 2024.

Funding The Wairarapa Station Build

It is estimated that this build will cost approximately $7million. It will be funded in a partnership model between Wellington Free Ambulance, a Crown contribution and community fundraising. Your support is vital.

To help us meet our fundraising target to support this build, we need our community's help!

We must raise $3 million from our community to make this vital resource for the Wairarapa possible.

There are several ways you can help us so that we can build your Wellington Free Ambulance Wairarapa Station:

  •  Make a donation – All donations made in the Wairarapa will directly fund the build.

  • Fundraise for Wellington Free Ambulance – Hold a jumble sale, raffle, bake sale, anything that brings people together and raises funds. If you are a local business owner, host one of our collection boxes and get your customers or clients involved in the fundraising.

  • Join our Support Crew for a commitment from $2,500 per year.  Get your business involved and show your community you are supporting Wellington Free Ambulance. Contact Cheryl, our Wairarapa Liaison, for further details.

  • Donate goods or services that we need – If you think you could supply some items or services to the build please contact Cheryl, our Wairarapa Liaison, for further details.

  • Make a major gift – If you’d like to discuss making a transformational donation please contact Claire, our General Manager Fundraising and Communications, for further details.

  • Leave a gift in your will - If you would like to leave a lasting legacy that provides long-term continued support for the Wairarapa region please contact Amber, our Bequest Manager, for further details.

The new station will be a great step forward for the people of Wairarapa. This is an asset that will serve us all for years to come. To make a donation, please click here
