This was a study of the first 1000 patients presenting to the ambulance service who could be treated in the community by Extended Care Paramedics (ECP).
Summary
ECPs have significant potential to reduce hospital emergency department (ED) attendances by treating more patients in the community. This was associated with a low rate of subsequent ED presentations. The spectrum of patients who could be safely treated at home was defined.
