Meet Fleet Manager Josh - Employee of the Year!
Fleet Manager Josh was recently named Employee of the Year 2024. The following words from across the Wellington Free Ambulance team explain why he’s a deserving winner. Read more about Josh’s role, why he won and what it means to him.
Josh joined the Wellington Free team around 3 years ago. As Fleet Manager, he has many responsibilities. These include procuring all the vehicles for our fleet (that’s currently around 95 vehicles) and working with key internal stakeholders and external suppliers to get new ambulances and other vehicles built to exacting specifications. When you see a Wellington Free ambulance on the road, that’s Josh’s mahi!
Josh also oversees the workshop operations; all fleet vehicles are serviced at our workshop at our Thorndon Ambulance Station, keeping them fit to be on the road, 24/7, 365 days a year. This includes management of the 5-strong Fleet team that includes mechanics Paul and Richard and drivers Jo and Barry.

The words below from Josh’s several nominations express the impact Josh has had on Wellington Free:
“Josh represents the values of continuous improvement, innovation and collaboration.
He leads a team that’s fully embraced change, creating a positive and supportive environment that’s allowed the team to grow from strength to strength over the years.
His forward-thinking, can-do attitude in maintaining our fleet has been felt across all areas of the organisation.”
Josh says…
“Receiving the Employee of the Year award means a lot. I’m honoured and humbled, it’s such a good feeling to be recognised. Since joining Wellington Free I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside the people out there caring for your loved ones and have learned so much from them about how Wellington Free operates.
This knowledge gives me the power to achieve the best outcomes for fit-for-purpose fleet and equipment across the organisation. I’m looking forward to all the exciting projects underway at Wellington Free. It goes without saying that the people in my corner help keep this show on the road. What a place to work – I love it, and collaboration is key!”
Congratulations Josh, tēnā koe and thank you for everything you do!
