Two new ambulances thanks to Colleen and Bryan Pobar

Thanks to the generosity of the late Colleen and Bryan Pobar, we have two new ambulances on the road and here for our community.

Pobar ambulance launch with friends and family of Colleen and Bryan

The two new 2020 Mercedes Sprinters were launched on Wednesday 24 February alongside friends and family.

“Colleen and Bryan had nothing but praise for the Wellington Free Ambulance service given that it was just that, free, to the community.

"The wishes of both Colleen and Bryan was widely known to family and friends alike for many years, so we were immensely proud to be part of the launch of the two ambulances, and to witness their passion and wishes becoming reality. It's heartening to know that they would have been smiling down on the proceedings,” says Colleen’s sister, Shona Adamson.

Because our paramedics are constantly on the move, having two new ambulances ready to go is a huge benefit to the service. It means we can continue to be in the best position to respond and provide the best possible care – whenever we’re needed.

Wellington Free Ambulance Chair Dame Kerry Prendergast explains that in its lifetime, an ambulance will travel over 300,000kms and help thousands of people when they need us most.

“Both Colleen and Bryan were passionate supporters of Wellington Free Ambulance in their lifetime and now with this donation have made a significant difference to our community. We could not do what we do without the kindness of people like Colleen and Bryan, and their family and friends,” Kerry says.

Acting Chief Executive Sarah Lewis says it was incredibly exciting to celebrate the launch of two new ambulances with friends and family of Colleen and Bryan.

“To receive donations like this really does make a huge difference to our service, and in turn our communities. So thank you,” Sarah adds.

The two new ambulances will be based at our Lower Hutt and Newtown ambulance stations, but will travel all across Wellington and Wairarapa when required.

Keep an eye out for 475 and 476 working hard in your neighbourhood.
