14 new van ambulances for our fleet

We're thrilled to give you a sneak peek at the first of the new van ambulances that will be added to the Wellington Free fleet in coming months!

A paramedic smiles from behind the wheel of a new van ambulance

In total 14 van ambulances, all philanthropically funded by our community, will start to make an appearance across the region before the end of the year.

These van ambulances are built here in Aotearoa New Zealand specifically for our needs and are equipped to respond to any incident just like the larger box body ambulances.

The vans are lighter and easier to manoeuvre (a real benefit in some of our region's narrow and winding hilly suburbs!) and have the same sized engine power output as the box body, but as a lighter vehicle are more efficient.

Keep an eye out and you'll start to notice them out and about taking our crews to where they're needed the most, saving and changing lives each and every day and night of the year!

Thank you to the Estate of Ida Kathleen O’Connor for the generous bequest that has funded two van ambulances.
